At its July 18 Special Meeting, the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees named Derek Cain as the new Principal of Colleyville Heritage High School.
Cain began at CHHS in 2021, serving as Assistant and Associate Principal before stepping into the role of Interim Principal this summer as GCISD administrators collected parent and staff feedback and conducted the search for the next principal. Prior to his time at CHHS, he has spent 13 years in education as an assistant principal for Arlington High School and a teacher and coach in Clear Creek ISD.
“Derek has done a phenomenal job building strong relationships with the students, families and staff at Colleyville Heritage, which he will leverage and continue to build upon,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz said. “He’s a highly committed and trusted leader who is dedicated to the success of the Panther family, and we’re excited to have him leading the campus.”
Cain’s experience in campus leadership spans from committee roles with technology to transportation and he’s led efforts at the campus level in special services, standardized exams, behavior and master scheduling.
“I am honored to serve the students, staff, and community of Colleyville Heritage High School,” Cain reflected. “Our school provides great opportunities for all of our students, and I believe there is no better place to be. I am proud to call Colleyville Heritage High School my home.”
Cain earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from Texas A&M University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin University. He will begin his new role immediately.
