On April 28-29, Colleyville Heritage High and Grapevine High track and field teams competed at the Region 1-5A Championship, where two GHS student athletes advanced to the UIL Conference 5A State Championship at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 12.
GHS senior Kylie Himes, who will be running for Dallas Baptist University next school year, placed second in the girls 3200-meter event, qualifying for the state championship.
Also from GHS, junior Adam Burlison completed the regional championship double by winning both the boys 1600-meter and 3200-meter events. Last season GHS’s Walker St. John won the 3200-meter state championship, and Burlison hopes to defend that crown. Burlison was also a member of the 2022 UIL 5A Cross Country State Championship Team and had impressive individual finishes, placing second at the state meet and winning the Nike Cross Country South Regional Championship.
Congratulations to both students for their top finishes at regionals and good luck at the state championship.
