New To CMS: Mandy Ozuna

I am a Mary Hardin-Baylor graduate originally from East Texas. I moved to the metroplex after completing my bachelor’s degree. My background in education started in 2004 as an elementary teacher with a background in psychology. I absolutely loved working with children and using my education in social emotional development to teach. I taught in the classroom for 6 years before becoming an elementary school counselor. Ten years of my professional career were spent in Grand Prairie, my husband’s hometown. Our family relocated to Grapevine in 2014, and I made the leap to secondary and was blessed to become a part of the GCISD family at Grapevine High School as a counselor for three years.

After working at GHS, I worked in the mental health field as a private practitioner with my license as a professional counselor. My previous experience as a teacher and school counselor heightened my awareness of the daily trials children and teenagers face in an ever changing world. My passion to work along-side educators and specialize in social emotional wellness led me to an intervention counseling role in Eagle-Mountain Saginaw ISD in 2019. I was finally able to work with middle school students and round out my hands-on knowledge in social emotional development. My experience in education for 14 years and experience in the mental health field have brought me to a place in life where prevention and intervention are at the forefront of my focus. And now I find myself right back were my journey started in secondary education in a district near and dear to my heart. I am thrilled to be the student advocate at Colleyville Middle School.

We have settled in well in Grapevine and are fortunate to have our own two children in GCISD. My husband and I have an 11-year-old daughter headed to middle school and an 8-year-old son continuing his awesome years at Heritage Elementary. Most weekends we can be found at the baseball fields, soccer fields, and basketball court cheering on one of the kids. We love sports and being on the go!
